Some are more organized than others and will have the parts taken off the vehicles and housed on shelves for easy location purposes. Many today have computerized systems that keep track of exactly what they have in stock and even offer the items online. This practice is the exception and definitely not the rule. Most salvage yards look exactly as they are pictured to look, jammed with vehicles, dirty and not well kept.
Some salvage yards send customers to look for their own parts and some of them can tell you exactly what they have in stock. If you go to a yard that requires you to find your own replacement parts take along a friend, a tape measure, and a cell phone. Many junkyard will specialize in the make of car it deals with. Most junk yards will have more of one kind of car parts than others, too like Chevy, Ford, Mustang or Corvette parts. The same with BMW, Mercedes or Jaguar they are all specialty parts that would be kept in certain areas, or they might be a specialty of a particular junkyard. Antique parts are hard to find and show up mostly at automobile auctions or auto trading shows like at Carlisle Pennsylvania.
Tire recycling is a good option for tires that have no life left in them. Recycled tires can be turned into other useful products. For instance, shredded tires can be used as substrate for playgrounds in lieu of woodchips or gravel, which can cause injury. Steel mills can burn tires in order to replace the carbon lost in steel manufacturing. Whole tires can be used as barriers or for erosion control. Tires can even be stamped and cut to make certain types of clothing, such as rubber sandals.
Once you have chosen a yard interested in the used auto parts in your car, go through your car and remove everything. The owner's manual, title, and keys are all that the auto salvage yard wants or needs for the car. Once you turn the car over to them, they are not going to let you go back through it for the personal items you forgot.

Several weeks later, Ronda went to the wrecking yard to recover the registration from the car with John. She was so completely devastated when she saw the unrecognizable, demolished car that she broke down in tears. She could not believe that she was still alive, and yet at the same time she could believe it because she had been asked and she remembered that she was certain she would live.
The Garbage Scow Commander: This driver constantly throws garbage out of their windows. It could be a pop bottle, cigarette butt, or even a pair of shoes. Have you ever seen a pair of old shoes along a highway? I always wondered how these shoes found their way onto the roadside. They probably fell off of a garbage scow. Proceed with caution or you may end up with a newspaper on your hood.

While junk yards are one of the most common places where you can find used parts, they're not the only places. Though, you will always get much better deals at junkyards than any other place. Most of the damaged and old vehicles always have a number of spares that work perfectly well. Sometimes these parts are almost new. The only problem with junkyards is that at most of the times you will have to locate and remove the spare part yourself. On the flipside, this saves your money on labor charges that some other dedicated stores might charge you.
